We are looking at the possibility of creating a group of "Friends of Minterne Gardens" which may include a Season Ticket to visit the gardens and regular garden walks. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

 



MINTERNE IN MAY

April & the beginning of May have been very exciting for me as the Magnolias in parts of the garden have flowered so well this year, & some of the later ones are still showing flowers now. Despite the strange weather that we have been given, the Rhododendrons have been flowering & are now showing their blooms. There's something differnt every day & yet still they are being held back in some areas of the garden.

LOST VICTORIAN FLOWER REDISCOVERED AT MINTERNE

After just 2 months as Head Gardener at Minterne, we are thrilled to announce the discovery of a rare 'lost' species of a 100-year old Rhododendron beanianum.

MARCH at Minterne Gardens

The weather on my first week at Minterne seemed to be returning to winter, with cold nights & north easterly winds, but also thankfully very sunny. 

During my interviews I could see there was an enormous amount of work in the garden tidying, pruning, weeding, but it was not until I had been walking round looking in detail at the garden, that the amount sunk into me, and boy do I love a challenge!!

SPRING IS IN THE AIR

Spring is in the air now the daffodils have begun to show colour, & dotted round the garden the wonderful colour of early Azaleas & Rhododendrons, some of which fill the air with their heavenly scent.

INTRODUCTION FROM NEW HEAD GARDENER

I feel very fortunately graced to have been given the unique position of Head Gardener at this historically very important garden of Minterne in Dorset.

It gives me great pleasure maintaining and restoring these beuatiful gardens to their former perfection, as the Great Plant Hunters envisaged.
